Lee Mason has been named as the fourth official for West Ham’s FA CUpo fifth-round tie at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
The controversial referee has been slammed by Southampton who have asked that neither Mike Dean nor Less Mason are allowed to officiate at their future games.
According to Sky Sports it was VAR official Lee Mason instructed Mike Dean to use the pitchside monitor – reportedly on his opinion of a clenched fist from the West Ham man – and after a long look, the referee showed Tomas Soucek a red card, despite there appearing to be no intent behind the contact.
The Saints do not want Lee Mason, who was the fourth official at Old Trafford in a 9-0 loss to Manchester United, to officiate their games.
Mason was the referee in Saints’ controversial defeat by Aston Villa.
Southampton fans fumed at the non-award of a penalty against Aston Villa defender Matty Cash. Referee Lee Mason did not give a penalty with VAR official Mike Dean also deciding that no action should be taken.
Referee Paul Tierney will referee the FA Cup clash with Manchester United with Craig Pawson on VAR duty.
