Maxwel Cornet has joined Southampton on loan until the end of the 2024/25 season.

The Saints fended off late interest from Crystal Palace, who had an incredibly busy transfer deadline day.

Cornet agreed to move to the South Coast late last night but had to wait as Southampton focused on concluding other business first.

Cornet’s deal is not believed to contain an obligation to buy. However, The Hammers are hopeful that the Ivorian can enjoy a strong season and return to the form that convinced West Ham to pay £17 million for him.

The winger’s switch from Burnley has been frustrating for both the player and West Ham. It has become clear over recent weeks that the former Lyon player would not feature under new Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui.

Cornet joins former Irons team-mate Flynn Downes who moved to the Saints earlier this season to play under former boss Russel Martin.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

I’m sorry to see Max leave West Ham without having much opportunity to prove his worth in Claret & Blue.
    Best of Luck to him

Sixteen appearances last year, twenty-two the year before. Obviously many from the bench. Sounds like enough opportunity. You think other top ten PL teams perservere with players like Cornet or rather just try to move them on?

Who wants to be like other top ten PL teams?

        We are WHU

You miss those relegation battles of old do you? You always used to tell a Hammers fan because each week we would start looking at the league table from the bottom and see how many points clear (if any) we had.

Always felt bad for flair players that needed to conform to Moyse style of play.
Don’t get me wrong, this is no criticism of David Moyse, he came in and saved us from relegation, twice.
He gave us three wonderful European adventures and won us our first significant silverware in years.
    He was the Moysiah.
But he had his way and style that he impressed on the team, and I just don’t think is suited flair players.
Some kind of adapted, like the Hammer for life Fornals. But Benrahma suffered, Lanzini suffered, and Cornet didn’t even get going!
Not to mention we signed some world class strikers, but again, they weren’t the managers style.
Loppy is putting his stamp on this team, go for it, let’s do it. It’s West Ham, all or nothing.
Maybe those we’ve shipped out on loan will rediscover their top form, and maybe next season they can come back to us. Almost as a new signing.
Ok that last bit is a little bit of a stretch, but you never know.
    Onwards and upwards.
So, are we going to be the first team that gives Man City a 5-0 thrashing in years or what?

Nothing to do with injury then? Cornet was unavailable for six months, buggered off to France. Said he had some strange rare disorder apparently.

A fair summary from Down Under.

The club moved on undet Moyes. There was good and bad, but we are now In a better place. A phase is over, and it’s now time for the next one.

Loppety Guy is faced with a big job. One the one hand there is the legacy of existing players: some very good, some still servicable, etc, and some who couldn’t fit into the system but might now.
