Cornet deserves his chance for West Ham

Cornet deserves his chance to avoid another Vlasic disaster

Maxwel Cornet deserves a second chance at West Ham. The club sanctioned a £17 million outlay on the Burnley winger, but he’s barely played since joining. There is evident concern over the length of his injury last season. Also, the fact that he sought medical help overseas rather than in-house at West Ham would not have aided his situation.

However, that’s a long time ago now, and the Hammers are in dire need of not only a left-winger but also a striker. Cornet can play in both positions, so it’s odd to see him used so infrequently. I believe he should be pushing Said Benrahma for his place in the team. The Algerian appears to be the first-choice understudy for David Moyes, but his form has been poor.

Then there’s Danny Ings, who has not scored in 20 games for West Ham. Cornet is far better suited to Moyes’ style of football and provides necessary pace on the counter-attack. If Ings can get football with precious little evidence he can score  . . . why not the Ivorian?

If Cornet doesn’t get a chance this season, I can see him being sold for a massive loss without ever really being given an opportunity. If that sounds familiar, it’s because Nikola Vlasic seemed to suffer the same fate, and the club can’t continue haemorrhaging money.

Yes mate this is one of the major flaws with Moyes method, he creates a small group and flogs them to death regardless of form and drops others like a brick. It is all too clear that Cornet has been excommunicated. Meanwhile Mubama can’t get a ten minute stint and we have youngsters like Marshall apparently knocking on a locked door. Personally I hope we lose Moyes before we lose any more talent.
