A move which would see Maxwell Cornet deployed as Left Back for West Ham is incredibly unlikely.
There has been much talk in the sports pages and websites about the Ivorian’s best position during the past week. Cornet was selected at left wing back as the Ivory Coast beat Lesotho last week during the international break.
This prompted many to suggest the same switch might be worth a try for the Hammers. However, it’s hard to imagine manager David Moyes using the player in such a position. In fact it’s difficult to envisage Moyes deploying Cornet in any position, such has been his fall from grace
Let’s face it, if Cornet can’t get into the team in his usual position, he’s hardly likely to force his way in following one game which wasn’t even witnessed by the Hammers manager.
Cornet has been restricted to just 90 seconds of action heading into Saturday’s clash with the annoyingly good Manchester City. His substitute appearance during the our opening day draw against Bournemouth, was fleeting, yet still yielded the obligatory offside call.
I suspect the player is unwanted by the manager. Whilst nothing was ever said officially, it seems Cornet’s decision to get medical treatment away from the club was frowned upon. What appeared to be a routine calf injury turned into a 5 month nightmare, from which the player has never really regained the managers trust.
Cornet would be better served pushing for a chance on the left wing. With Europa Cup games coming up as well as the League Cup campaign, there may be a chance to impress.
But any chance of ousting the impressive Emerson or even Cresswell are unlikely.
