Cost of Defoe revealed as Gale tells board: “Dig deep”

TonyGale_3167231Tony Gale has again been forthright in his views on all things Hammers and has joined his big pal Tony Cottee in calling on the club to get Jermain Defoe this summer.

Gale has lashed into the the board recently telling them to “keep quiet” and  support the manager but now he has called for them to dig deep to bring Defoe to the club

Claretandhugh was the first media outlet to bring news the club was interested in making a summer move for the former striker and Gale and Cottee are desperate for it to happen.

Gale is reported this morning as saying: “I know he’d cost a fortune in wages, but I think if he came to West Ham and West Ham got a system where they could play two up-front – Andy Carroll and Jermain Defoe – that would take some stopping, wouldn’t it.”

It could easily happen with the club telling ClaretandHugh: “He’s very much a target and we are looking at his position – notably if Sunderland are relegated when he may be a free transfer.”

And we understand the wages of which Gale speaks are around £80,000 – £85,000 a week.

  1. Blah blah blah blah & so on , and so on , and more blah blah blah .
He is 34 for crying out loud and will soon be 35 playing alongside sicknote in a 4 4 2 where the “2” is very likely to go missing for most of the season . That doesn’t seem like forward thinking to me in any shape or form . How can West Ham possibly get ahead with that logic .

Pretty much what i thought after reading your comment Kevin.
Why should Defoe go missing he is rarely if ever injured or did you not put that in to your blah blah equation.

  3. He is 34 , or did you miss that little snippet . A good candidate for injury , especially at West Ham where injuries are common place , and not necessarily during a match .
    Personally, I think it’s a fair comment .

  4. I dont see it myself Kevin, the lad is fit as a flea.He is what appears to be a footballer who suffers few injuries.I dont see that changing in the next year or two.
In this day and age i think the age arguement is well aged when it comes to players such as defoe.
In any case you have to look at individuals and not just bracket all players age paet of Dads Army because they are beyond a certain date of birth. The fitness and health regimes these pros are on are fa

    • this bloody jumping screen when ads continue to load as you type. Its going to drive me la la.
Forget it i cant be bothered now lol

  5. Giggs played at a good level until his late 30’s, Defoe seems to look after himself hopefully we will sign him and another centre forward so long as they know where the goal is they will be an improvement on most we have had in recent years.
