Costa’s wages deter Hammers and other clubs

Diego Costa

West Ham have lost interest in free agent striker Diego Costa on learning of the former Chelsea man’s wage demand.

Although he would sooner sign for a club on a two year deal, the 32 year old will join a Premier League outfit for £200,000 a week until the end of the June.

And that is far too rich for the Hammers blood and most others to whom the player has been linked after coming out of contract following a spell with Atletico Madrid.

He has been the number one free agent striker eyed by various clubs but his wage demands in Covid times have ensured that he remains very much outside the wage restrictions imposed at most clubs.

He is now available after  leaving Atletico Madrid but there are additional worries over attitude giving various offences including one when  he repeatedly slapped Laurent Koscielny and chest-bumped him to the ground.

He then confronted Gabriel, who allegedly tried to kick him and was sent offHis conduct was deemed “disgusting” by visiting manager Arsène Wenger,

As a result there are concerns that he would settle into the well spierited Hammers dressing room.

  1. Why would any club, even West Ham for that matter, be interested in a mercenary like him?
For too long football has been about money, instead of whether a player wants to come to the club and is willing to give everything for the club that he signs for. A bit like putting the cart before the Horse… One to avoid IMHO……Do we really want another Chicharito?

    • I’d be worried about his attitude too our spirit is great. I keep seeing Costa & other mention Musa. Of the free agents I think Niasse makes most sense. Yes 30 but has pace is tall strong was good under Sam I think when got 8 goals & 3 asissts in 22 games at Everton. Same season Lanzini got diving ban he did too. 5 months with option or much prefer to Costa wages wouldn’t be big either & is knows the PL Can stretch teams & would suit the way we play better then Costa too who was much better in more possession team.
