Cottee: He’s the right man, in the right place, at right time

|

CandH Exclusive:

Tony Cottee wants to see David Moyes as West Ham manager for as long as he was Everton’s and has pleaded with the fans for patience over the next couple of campaigns.

Speaking exclusively to CandH he said: “The fans have been frustrated by so many things – the move from the Boleyn, the new stadium, changes of manager, indifferent results but for me David has always been the man to being some much needed stability.

All the side issues come up when the results are wrong – everything gets complained about and all that does is pour pressure on the players. It actually makes things worse.

I remember Martin O’Neill telling me when I went to Barnet as boss and had great plans – a master plan, ‘Forget it TC, just get results. That’s all this game is about.’

I was bitterly disappointed when David Moyes wasn’t kept on last time but the board gave the fans what they thought they wanted in a high flying boss.

Okay it didn’t work but they have gone back and sorted the issues and giving him and themselves a real chance to put it right. I think Moysie will!

TC has been involved at both clubs as a player and sees Everton and the Hammers in similar terms as clubs who work within certain financial limits and with similar aspirations.

He reckons that’s why the manager feels so at home at our place and said: “He was at Everton for 11 years and had a great relationship with chairman Bill Kenwright.

Manager/chairman relationships are the most important at any club and it would be perfect if that happened here between him and David Sullivan .

On the field he has already shown his readiness to switch system as he did to three at the back last night. I thought that was an excellent performance – truly professional.

You can never go into e very game with the same system – that’s just not on and as he gets to know the players that much better, we can expect improvement all round.”

For me – the right man in the right place at the right time!

Agree with all of the above. The main thing we need to give Moyes is time;to establish his brand on thus club and I don’t mean to the end ofvhalf a season, as before. We’re lucky to have him back, now let’s all get real about where this club is, and back him 100%. COYI’s

I dont think pellegrine was a high flying manager he lost his passion some time ago and 100% would be relegated this season just so glad he’s gone it should of been alot sooner and just as glad that Moysey has come back to install some passion back into the club. COME ON YOU IRONS

100% agree with TC. Sometimes I think we have ideas of grandeur – we think ourselves bigger and better than we are. Hopefully, one day we will be, but that doesn’t come overnight from a new stadium, one £45m signing or a ‘marquee’ manager. It comes from a solid backroom setup, a long term plan and the buy-in from the players.

In David Moyes, we have a manager that is right for the size and state of our club. I have every confidence that, given time and patience, he will build a strong club that is always competing in the Top 8.

It’s time to dispense with the constant moaning and complaining and get real. COYI.

I agree, people tend to forget that Fergie took about 5-6 years to get the players that he wanted to get a good team together at ManU and really establish himself as a top manager which lead to 20 plus years as one of the best teams in the world!
