Coventry set for big chance as Posh watch and hope

Conor Coventry is likely to get the chance to impress in tomorrow’s prestige friendly against Atalanta at the London Stadium.

The academy youngster has so far been in great form during pre-season and continues to interest Peterborough United who are keen to take him to London Road on loan.

However, the Republic of Ireland international is likely to be kept on by the Hammers as possible cover for Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.

Manu Lanzini is going to be ahead of him in that area which is keeping the newly promoted Championship outfit hopeful that  David Moyes may be ready to do a loan deal later in the window.

Moyes, though, will be keen to see how the 21 year old performs against the classiest opposition we have faced so far tomorrow (Sat) after Peterborough made their interest in the player known a month ago..

It’s a game rich with interest as we see the likely line up Moyes is planning for the opening match of the Premier League campaign next weekend at Newcastle.

  1. Personally I would have sent him out on loan and to play games in the championship for 1 year to gain valuable experience especially with Noble retiring at the end of this season. I am not sure he is ready but Moyes obviously feels he is close so I hope it turns out to be the right decision for the player – I just can see how getting a few full games with West Ham is better than playing 25-30 championship games. I just hope the decision is not being taken as we cannot afford to sign a CM to compete with Rice and Soucek as this would be the wrong reason.

  2. If you are good enough you are old enough. Other teams gain from playing their younger Players. Most of ours get wasted and never really given a chance.

  3. Sink or swim time Connor. I reckon you’ll make like a shark. Good luck COYI

  4. If he has to go on loan – Swansea would be a better fit than Peterborough. It worked out well for Frank Lampard. Playing for Posh would be a backward move for a potential West Ham first-teamer. COYI

  5. He won’t learnt much from playing for a guaranteed struggling Peterborough. If Moyes is brave enough he will start Coventry tomorrow. Rice won’t be 100% ready. Soucek,Coventry and Lanzini should be our starting line up with Antonio,Fornals and Benrhama up top. Rice,Noble and Bowen to come on for 30 minutes for any of those 6.
