Cresswell feeling the confidence

Aaron Cresswell insists the Hammers have what it takes to beat Newcastle on Saturday and climb back into the Premier League top four.

The Irons go into the game two points behind Manchester United, having played the same number of games, but are in action first on Saturday, with United set to play Leeds on Sunday.

It means that the Irons have the chance to set the agenda and climb back into contention for Champions League qualification by recording a win.

Newcastle, though, are in good form themselves and have won all of their last three fixtures to climb clear of the relegation zone, which they are now four points ahead of.

Nevertheless, Cresswell feels that the Hammers have the quality required to win the game and make a statement in their bid to finish in the top four.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “On the back of bringing in a new manager, the owners taking over, the money coming in, the whole atmosphere has changed at Newcastle in the last couple of months.

“They’ve had three wins in the last three, confidence will be high and some good players have come in, adding to some very good players as it is.

“It’s another challenge for us and one we need to come over. It’s going to be a tough day but one we’re looking forward to.

“If we can set our marker out, playing first on Saturday, it gives the others something to look at and challenge. We’re focused on what we need to do and not what anyone else is.”

The Hammers beat Newcastle 4-2 in August.
