Former West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell is set to join Stoke City on a free transfer, it can be revealed.
Details remain limited at this stage, but Claret & Hugh have been sent images showing Cresswell completing his media duties in Stoke’s red and white stripes.
The experienced and versatile defender ended last season in fine form and wasn’t short of offers. It’s understood Cresswell held talks with Bristol City while they were still in the Championship play-offs, and had they been promoted to the Premier League, a deal was believed to be on the cards.
Birmingham City were also rumoured to be interested, alongside his former club Ipswich Town, but today Cressie was spotted at Stoke’s Clayton Wood training ground finalising his move and completing all of his official unveiling.
After 11 loyal years at West Ham, Cresswell leaves with his head held high and a lot of love from Hammers fans. The Liverpudlian made over 300 appearances for the Irons and served under multiple managers, always giving his all..
Good luck on your new adventure, Cressie. You deserve every success. And there’s no doubt Mark Robins has landed a Premier League-calibre player who proved last season that he can still perform at the top level.
Fantastic signing what a credit to JW to get him to stoke city
Good sensible signing now for a few more
Good luck to him. Should of kept him for his experience and to help the youngsters coming through Hope he returns to us.
Another West Ham mess about to explode in our faces … releasing of Cresswell, Fab + Coufal.
These devoted West Ham warriors, are still able to perform for the club … but no, our clever manager got rid.
Now WH are struggling to replace them, and will have to fork put another few million pounds.
When will West Ham learn? Oh boy !
Those three have done their bit for West Ham but are no longer PL level players. Instead of hanging around long enough to be blamed for occasional mistakes, they deserve a golden handshake from WHU and the opportunity to go and earn good money but at a less frantic pace. Macaulay has been in the job as Potters sidekick for 6 months now without doing anything tangible. Time for him to earn his place and work with Potter to build a new, younger and more energetic West Ham. As it stands, we would have been better off keeping Steidten. Success or not this season, Sullivan’s removal should be part of the plan.
11 loyal years? Apart from when he went on strike trying to force a move to wolves
Good to hear, hope it all works out for him, gave us years of great service and have nothing but respect for him as a professional, hopefully when his playing days are over we can see him back working with the youngsters as he has great respect for club, we need ex pros that know what this club stands for back here working with the young lads, good luck and best wishes Cress
