Czech players pronunciation confirmed

The official Twitter account of Slavia Prague has been helping West  Ham supporters with the pronunciation of their former player Vladimir Coufal.

The English version of the social media account for the Czech Republic clubs explains the closest is “Tso” (like in “so”) and “fal” (like in “pal”)    Vladimir is pronounced as it reads as VLAHdee-meer

So Vladimir Coufal is pronounced  Vlah-dee-meer Tso-fal

Similarly, Tomas Soucek is pronounced  Tomas So-Czech

TV football commentators don’t seem to have had their Czech Republic language lessons yet so expect to hear all kind of variations for both players until they do.

Soucek joined the Hammers from Slavia Prague in January 2002  for a £4m loan fee and an additional £15m to make the deal permanent in August. Soucek’s Czech former teammate Coufal also joined from Slavia Prague for £4.5m last month.

West Ham could return to the Czech Republic for more players in January so we could get have more interesting names to pronounce
