Richard Abrahams, a Northampton dad is set to walk the 70 miles from Sixfields Stadium, Northampton to West Ham’s HQ at London Stadium in a very personal fundraising bid in memory of his son, a keen amateur footballer in Northampton and West Ham fan who sadly passed away in 2023.

As reported in the Northamptonchron.co.uk, Luke, an avid Hammers fan died at the tragically young age of 20 just a week after first falling ill with a sore throat. His dad Richard has decided to undertake a fund-raising walk in May to keep his son’s name alive after his short illness.

As Richard told the news outlet:

“Who’d have thought I’d be doing it with two false hips at 63 years old. We’re looking at two and a half days – 30 miles on Monday, 30 miles Tuesday, then roughly 20 miles on Wednesday. We want to be at West Ham stadium at 2.30pm.”

“Those who knew Luke would tell you that football was his life and we thought no better way to raise money and awareness for two wonderful charities which are very close to our hearts than to walk from Luke’s hometown of Northampton to his beloved West Ham’s stadium.”

At Claret and Hugh we’d like to offer Richard our condolences and our very best wishes for his undertaking, new hips and all: Anyone wishing to donate can visit Richard’s just giving page which has full details of the cause, his son’s illness and the disease which took him at a tragically young age.

The just giving page can be accessed here: Richard and bestie Martin McBrien will be raising funds for the Sepsis UK charity and the Lee Spark Foundation.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
