David Moyes has questioned both Liverpool goals after watching the Hammers miss out an Anfield.
Liverpool came from behind to win 2-1 on Saturday evening after West Ham went ahead after ten minutes.
Mohamed Salah struck a penalty shortly before half-time and substitute Diogo Jota netted five minutes from the end after Pablo Fornals had given the Hammers an early lead.
Referee Kevin Friend pointed to the spot after Salah had fallen theatrically to the ground having been kicked on the sole of his foot by West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku.
And an unhappy Moyes said: “I don’t think it’s a penalty kick. I think he throws himself to the ground. Arthur stops expecting the referee to do something because of the way he (Salah) threw himself to the ground and it went the other way.
“That shouldn’t take away a lot of the positives from the game. We did a lot of good things tonight and we are really disappointed we didn’t take anything from the game.”
Liverpool’s winner came when Shaqiri threaded the ball through the legs of West Ham’s Fabian Balbuena for fellow substitute Jota to score his third goal in as many games but if Moyes’ explanation is to be accepted then yesterday’s game was certainly not among Fab’s best.
He was guilty of a couple of blunders which could easily have led to goals in the first half.
Moyes said: “I didn’t think Fabby needed to rush up to Shaqiri in the first place. I thought he could have waited.
“By coming out, he made his mind up for him. If he (Shaqiri) meant it, I don’t know, I couldn’t be sure, we need to look at it again to see if that was the case.
Typical Moyes. Defends his favourites – Masuaku – despite his needless challenge on Salah in the box and calls -out the ones he doesn’t like – Balbuena – for trying to close Shaquiri down. He HAD to come out as the midfielders had lost him. Poor man management from Dithering Dave. Yet again he does not use his bench effectively. Klopp did. Top manager v average manager
Get a grip you mug! It really sums up your life having to come on a supporters website and personally attack a team coach when you clearly know nothing about football or the squad itself. Now jog on back to pikey land! 🙂
Couldn’t agree more, Salah is a known diver, like Vardy they try and cheat referees and seem to continually get away with it, the guy lands on his other foot and throws himself into the air like he’s been shot from a tiny touch, when will football get real and stop this ??? If no player or commentator believes it’s a penalty why do referees even with the use of video evidence ???
Totally agree with DM. Shocking dive where players need to be held to account much more. The thing is, players don’t get penalties unless they go down, so as that’s the case, they need to look at the way they go down. I had more respect for Salah before this game – totally gone down in my estimations now. Poor dive but just goes to show how far WHU have come to be undone by a cheating Liverpool side…COYI
