David Moyes defends Manuel Lanzini

David Moyes has defended Manual Lanzini calling him West Ham’s best player and asking supporters to get behind him to return to his former form.

Many supporters were surprised when Manuel Lanzini got the nod again ahead of Pablo Fornals and some even cheered when Lanzini was substituted during this evening’s defeat to Liverpool.

The manager told reporters in his post match conference at the London Stadium  “He’s arguably our best player, if not our best. I needed him as much as Arnautovic, I am desperate to get him back to those levels. I need the supporters to be right behind him. He is our flair, the person who makes the difference so he needs support but I also need him to do the right things for us. There is nobody more behind him than me.”

His words explain the blind faith he has displayed in Lanizni despite a string of poor performances by the Argentine midfielder.

  1. He will get us relegated if he keeps playing him

  2. Not tonight unfortunately there second goal he could be held responsible for???as well as Masuaku

    • I think we are horrible people … Lanzini. Is a great player and we must not forget what he did with us the last few years and yes he was one of the players that kept us up last time … it’s sometimes these injuries a player faces that sometimes it’s hard for that player to get back to his usual form … let me
Remind all of you when Ramos broke Salah shoulder it took Salah a full season to get back into form , when the year before he was top scorer of PL it’s only this year he started gradually getting his form back … Lanzini. Was devastated when he missed the World Cup with Injury , and also by the time he was about to get his form back also broke his shoulder… so give him
Time and support and we will get him back in his original form again …. I don’t think Messi being regarded best footballer of the year … was mistaken to recommend Lanzini to play for Argentina

  3. Could being dropped be effecting Pablo Fornals mentally, when actually he wasnt playing badly?

If I was Fornals I would be very worried by what Moyes has said. He might never make it pass manu no matter what he does.

  4. Unfortunately Lanzini is finished. Adds absolutely nothing to the team.

Club needs to cut their losses with him and find someone who can create some drive and chances

  5. Was absolute pants tonight?? Sell him

  6. Well he isn’t at the moment and we can’t offord pasangers in the position we are in

  7. Awful performance yet again
    Can not believe Moyes’ comments

  8. He’s out of form but our fans cheering his substitution just depresses me. Really muggy,he must know it’s not happening for him. He’s had a couple of bad injuries and may never be that player again. He’s put in a shift for this club and there was a point a couple of seasons ago when he could have angled for a move to a bigger club. Lanzini has always been loyal and given me some of my favourite moments in a pretty bleak few years. Give the fella a break.

  9. Lanzini always takes a while to come good after injury. ACLs is a particularly bad injury. Usually takes 2 years to get back to your best. I think his form will return.
However he is awful ATM. I would play Fornals.

  10. Agree with the comments that booing him is not good, as said by Sean he takes a while to get back up to speed but honestly Fornals gives us more and we don’t have time to wait for him to come good which may not be until next season.

  11. I think Moyes is making it far worse for his confidence which now looks shot by continually playing him when his performances are sub-par. I stand by my belief that he will come good but that doesn’t mean we should persist when he’s not firing. Take him out of the firing line otherwise once the fans turn (looks so already) it’s a long way back

  12. The statements made by Moyes are exactly the reason why we are going down . He insisted during his first tenure to play Noble and then play others out of position to accomodate him . He is doing exactly the same again . Noble is finished but still gets wheeled out week after week while promising youngsters are sent out on loan or given away … and now is playing Lanzini out of position . Apart from Rice we have no midfield . Snodgrass is out of his depth , Noble is just plain awful , Lanzini is out of form and position and Fornals has not lived up to his reputation . As a result we create nothing and make the forwards look bad and we have no defensive cover / enforcer in midfield . It is not a new problem . We have had a series of players with tons of ability but are luxeries in a bad team . Anderson is technically superb but he is way ahead of those around him .

    • Peter I’m no mark noble cheerleader but how you manage to identify him as the problem at west ham is just not right. He is still a fantastic player and squad member even if he isht pirlo I would suggest a fit mark noble in a west ham side with 10 other competent would be a top 8 team. Mark is definitely not the problem
