The David Moyes MOT was the former West Ham head coach’s yardstick for selecting – or discarding – possible recruits to the club: Whether or not they possessed the right mental attitude to fit in was as important as fitness, skill or potential.

Famously, Moyesie ‘passed’ on some hugely talented young players , notably Viktor Gyokeres – and more often than not kept the Chairman’s money in the bank whilst (some would say) running the squad into the ground.

It turns out that he’s still a man with an eye for a bargain though, and now casting around looking for a striker to boost his Everton ranks: And true to form is looking at West Ham’s veteran striker as a possible stopgap.

According to nytimes.com/theathletic,  the many who signed James Ward Prowse at almost 30 years old is still on the same trajectory, considering taking high mileage 33 year old Callum Wilson to Merseyside:

“Sources also said Everton are interested in a deal for West Ham United striker Callum Wilson, who has been in talks to end his deal at the London Stadium.”

Wilson has stayed fit this season only by strictly limiting his game time and his trajectory is surely headed only one way.

Much like Niclas Fullkrug, the striker has too many injuries in his career to offer a robust, week in, week out option. However, why West Ham would let him leave when he’s more than capable of putting in a 20 minute performance and scoring half a dozen goals between now and May is beyond me.

Moyes knows a bargain, though, and as an impact sub, Wilson may yet come back to haunt West Ham if they don’t at least offer him decent money to stay for a few more months. A million quid between now and May is nothing to Sullivan in the context of a relegation battle, but that cash converted into a decent weekly wage could buy four or five more Wilson goals.

Surely those would be better coming in a claret and blue shirt.

In a relegation battle, fine margins can have a huge impact. Let him go in the summer, by all means, once he’s slotted in a few of the goals to help the Hammers plot their great escape v2.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.
