David Moyes on Blades win

David Moyes gave his post match press interview after the Hammers 1-0 away win at Bramall Lane and this is what he said.

|Your reflection on the game?

Really pleased with the three points. It was never going to be an easy game because they work so hard not to concede, Sheffield United, they are always a threat too so really pleased with the clean sheet and the win.

Sebastien Haller came good today

The big thing you want with you4 centre forward is to score goals that win you games and important ones. I just sensed a change in his confidence, he is upbeat, maybe when he was away with the Ivory Coast helped and I thought mahy parts of his game today were very good.

Missed a few chances, could have won by more?

I think we knew Sheffield united strengths, they don’t concede many, it was always going to be hard. I did say to the players, we need to be really careful and we did miss one or two chances but getting three points was key.

Overall, getting three points after coming here last year, we lost a point when Declan had the handball and Snoddy scored so to come away with three points today was really good.

Confident you can stay in the top half?

First things first I am not getting carried away with it, that is for sure. But I am certainly not looking down, I am looking up and I want to catch the teams higher up.

I don’t see why not with the players and this kind of performance though. We are ona good roll at the moment, it is going well. The biggest thing is this group of players is improving, there is a really good spirit among them.

Declan Rice was outstanding, thriving with the captaincy?

I might be repeating myself but a lot of the talk, rightly so, went to Jack Grelaish, Mason Mount and Phil Foden after the England game in midweek but I thought a lot more praise should have gone to Declan Rice for his performance then.

Also how he has improved because he is a very similar age, sometimes you forget that. The role, his responsibility he takes on the pitch because of his young age, his leadership qualities will build. He has learned from Harry Kane, Mark Noble, I really think he is doing a great job as a player and we are building up hope that he will be an otusraind captain.

My big concern is that he is so young that we rely on him too much. Have to say Tomas Soucek has been great as well, he has done a brilliant job alongside him.

Looking up at the table, is it realistic that West Ham can challenge top eight?

I would hope that we would always say that but I also don’t want to promise the West Ham supporters anything just now. I want to deliver more than what is expected if I can.

I don’t know what that actually means but I do know one thing, I don’t want to be fighting down the bottom of the league any more, that is for sure.

I want to be higher in the league, there is a real yale belief among the players that we are improving and the football I can see every day is getting better. Hopefully, we have scored a lot of goals but we have shown another side to our game today so it is all coming together.

Seen a smile from Haller?

I think he is now not doing it because everyone is asking for one. Did you see it? He’s smiling everybody and hugging everybody in the dressing room and he deserves it, it was a great goal.
