Dawson makes a pledge

You always know what’s coming from players after that sort of defeat and we weren’t disappointed to hear Craig Dawson taking about a “disappointing defeat” and “getting back to the training ground.”

Daws was one of our better player on a day which its best to forget but the simple truth really is that we were absolutely awful.

We were second best everywhere and it’s really hard not to conclude that we are suffering through lack of players.

Whose fault that is we are not u[ for discussion but there will be many with perfectly acceptable views because the truth is we are struggling as a result.

Sadly there’s nothing we can do about it and it might well find us out in a season-defeing match on Thursday but I’m praying I’m wrong.

Daes’ defensive partner Kurt Zouma may or may not make it and we may be asking a lot of a player with just a few minutes behind him in March – Issa Diop.

Dawson – discussing the defeat today – told www.whufc.com: “It’s a disappointing day, but we’ll get back on the training pitch tomorrow and work hard.

“From a defensive point of view, they were obviously two goals which we don’t like to concede, but fair play to Brentford, they caused us problems in those areas.

“We’re just focusing on ourselves. It wasn’t the standards we’ve set today, so we’re all disappointed in that changing room and there’s only one way to put it right. We have to take it and come back better.

“We work hard every day. It’s something we’re prepared for. We’ve got some important games coming up, some exciting games, and we need to get back on it and work hard.”

Attentions will now turn toward Thursday’s all-important Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon at Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

With the tie finely poised at 1-1 heading into the latter half of the tie, Dawson feels Sunday’s disappointment can serve as additional fuel for an improved performance against the Ligue 1 side on the continental stage.

He said: “We’ve got a big game on Thursday. Obviously we’re disappointed today.

“There are lot of disappointed and angry people in that changing room and hopefully on Thursday night we can change that.”
