According to a report from Alex Crook, Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson was offered to West Ham before a late night change of heart saw him signing for Fulham. And to add another layer to the intriguing tale, it seems that Nelson also agreed to join Ipswich only an hour before changing his mind and moving to The Cottagers.
In hindsight that was a bullet dodged for the Irons.
Reiss Nelson had struggled for playing time at Arsenal and has limited Premier League experience. His injury record has also been a concern, with the winger missing significant time over the past few seasons. Therefore, it would be difficult to see him getting any minutes at The London Stadium with Kudus, Bowen and Summerville all ahead of him.
He does possess impressive pace, but he seems to run out of ideas and doesn’t have much guile or creativity inside the final third. It goes without saying that a paltry return of only eight goals and nine assists in 89 games for Arsenal tells its own story
How solid the interest was is unknown but every time C&H asked the club about signing any more wide men we were told the same thing. “We have too many wingers”.
I was following this up as it happened…
Ex said that we’d been offered Reiss Nelson on favourable terms, along with Palace and Fulham, and that we were considering it.
I checked Arsenal sources that seemed quite definite that he was going to Ipswich on loan.
Ex then said that we’d considered it and decided against it. The next morning I saw he’d gone to Fulham.
A good coach like Silva will work with him and make him into a better, premier league player even if it’s only as a super-sub which was how it played out for him at Arsenal when fit. If the Irons are looking for an ” instant premier league player ” to fit straight into the first team then I’d agree with this article although “dodging a bullet ” seems extreme to say the least.
