News regarding the West Ham striker search – and not good news. From a very reputable source this lunchtime comes worrying information regarding the Hammers’ attempts to sign Brighton’s Evan Ferguson.
Guardian football journalist Jacob Steinberg has advised that Chelsea are joining the race at this late stage with just three days to go in the winter transfer window – to sign Brighton’s injury prone young star. In his Guardian article of Friday :”Chelsea join the race to sign striker Evan Ferguson from Brighton“, Steinberg confirms:
” [Chelsea Manager] Enzo Maresca is keen to bring in a striker to compete with Nicolas Jackson, who has gone seven games without scoring in the Premier League, and Ferguson is well known to the Stamford Bridge club’s recruitment team. Paul Winstanley, Chelsea’s co-sporting director, was previously at Brighton. It is unclear whether Chelsea, who have recruited heavily from Brighton during the past two and a half years, want a loan or a permanent deal.”
In a twist of delicious – or agonising – irony, the two clubs meet on Monday night just a couple of hours before the transfer window closes, so it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that the battle for Ferguson’s signature could be decided whilst the two teams are slugging it out on the pitch on Monday evening!
Chelsea of course have the financial muscle to leave West Ham standing: The advantage the Hammers have is being able to offer Ferguson guaranteed game time and a place in the squad.
So many players have their career in tatters after joining Chelsea- Carney Chukwuemenka, Ben Chilwell and Kieran Dewsbury-Hall are all prime examples of players who have signed for the Blues and disappeared: Who can tell what the decision Ferguson and Brighton will take, if faced with the two very different propositions from East and West London.
It could go down to the wire.
Perhaps Maresca is just lighting a fire under Jackson to up his levels, by implying he is looking for a new forward it’d definitely make Jackson want to put on a show! Hee hee!
😜
Unfortunately though, due to injury, Ferguson is NOT in a position to guarantee West Ham game time, which would make him a complete waste of space. Keep the guy we have already and play him up front to gain experience and become the player Steidten thought he could be. But there’s the rub isn’t it? We can’t have Guilherme proving Steidten was right, which is why we need to sell him before that happens.
We won’t sign anyone
Ferguson could be an excellent signing if he stayed fit. But the odds must be stacked against that surely on the evidence as it stands. If he does sign we have to hope, if he doesn’t sign it has a high propensity to be a bullet dodged.
And a high propensity to be a big success. You never win anything without taking a risk. He who dares wins mate.
And there you said it yourself ….woukd come down to the last 2 hours when we are playing….but we’ve had 2 months to sort something or get our house in order over players…..even though most of my post don’t go up ..again how has waiting til the last few days benefitted us …IT HASN’T wexwill just lose out on out targets as we’ll run out of time …to me that’s absolutely crazy……..what a way to run a club…
your posts are held manually to be approved because in the past they’ve been abusive or offensive! If you keep it clean they’ll soon get back to being ‘approved automatically’ 🙂
I hope the same goes for people being abusive to me in the past as well martin always 2 sides …..and all the post ive put up the last 2 or 3 weeks have been moans about transfers nit getting done ..I’ve not spoken to any particular person
..so you must be going back a while mate .no problem yiu crack on with your bias bud ..I’ll knock it on the head. As most is pointless repeated posts …..sorry is that allowed…ffs …have a good weekend mate …or them / they him or her ..i don’t what you go by ..ive a feeling your one of them …👍
“I’m one of them”.. not sure how to take that. But it made me smile anyway
for future-happy to release your comments, keep it decent and they will go live.
Chelsea just want ever player under the age of 20 who might go on to be good. Thats their transfer policy I think to stop anyone else getting the future greats.
If Ferguson was going anywhere it would have been settled days ago. This is just agent hot air imho
Chelsea can have him
Let them have him. No 20 year old should have the injuries he’s had, and big question why brighton would be willing to sell if they had any great hopes for him. Look at how they are turning down massive money for Mitoma. West Ham are simply not in a financial position to take this gamble.
