Deadline Day move for Villa Defender

The Hammers are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa and former Arsenal centre-half Calum Chambers.

Manager David Moyes is searching the transfer market for more defenders before the window shuts at 11 pm tonight. Chambers has struggled for game time since the arrival of Unai Emery and is believed to be of interest to numerous Premier League clubs, including West Ham.

The versatile 28-year-old has made only four Premier League appearances so far this season, and just one one of those came under the management of Emery. Chambers has played less than 20 times for the club since joining from Arsenal last season.

His versatility may well be alluring to the Irons boss who is suffering something of an injury crisis. Chambers has featured in both full-back positions and in central defence during his career. He has also occasionally played understudy in defensive midfield, which would make him a useful squad addition.
