West Ham’s hurried last-minute transfer attempts have understandably caught the headlines as the club looks to get deals done before the window closes tonight.
However, in the background, all transfer speculation surrounding Luis Guilherme seems to have gone deathly quiet, prompting the question… what are we going to do with the talented youngster?
Unless something miraculous happens, the young Brazilian winger looks set to miss out on any proposed move abroad in this transfer window.
Therefore, it is imperative that West Ham make a decision on the youngster’s future rather than allowing him to rot away in the Hammers’ dugout.
As far as I can see, there are four options available if Guilherme doesn’t leave on a permanent deal today.
We can leave things precisely as they are, and the £20m summer signing from Palmeiras can continue to be an unused substitute—not much of an option, really. Alternatively, we could actually give the lad some game time and see if he is able to perform in the Premier League.
Probably the best thing for the player’s development would be a loan deal to a Championship club, with an insistence that he starts 8+ games between now and the end of the season.
And finally, we could incorporate the lad into the U21s and at least allow him to play some football and perhaps catch the eye of Graham Potter and his coaches.
West Ham have a duty of care to the 18-year-old signed from halfway across the world, who has moved his whole family across the Atlantic. Surely, Guilherme deserves the chance to play football at some level, even if he is deemed not ready for the first team right now
After the news today that Summerville will be out for another 8 weeks surely they can’t let Guilherme go on loan or be sold now? He performed really well in the 11 minutes he was finally given last night and deserves more opportunities to.show what he can do.
Feyenord said to be strongly interested and the Dutch window does not close until tonight. It would be a mistake to let him go.
The intention on this from the outset was that he was a young player who would train as part of the first team squad not with the under 18s, but would not be a regular first team starter cameo appearances only which is precisely what’s happened. I really don’t get what has proven so intractable about that it is exactly what it said on the tin.
Another option is offer him on a ( cheap) loan to a Portuguese club for the remainder of the season, with condition of plenty of game time and work , and a careful monitoring agreement.
Strange thing is he cant get a look at W ham Yet news coming from Brazil hes still rated as best young talent in there country and tipped to represent them in the near future We are going to regret the way we are treating him watch this space
Send him on loan to Everton. Moysies been moaning about ffp and so can only loan players. They just got Carlos Alvaraz but sure they could do with Guilherme as well.
Agree entirely, and also with Mr TR. We have a duty of care. We often forget that at 18, you’re little more than a big child. Whilst I appreciate that there are levels that need to be achieved, there is also a way to do things when it comes to the resulting decisions. If we truly want to be the Academy of Football, we need to show all youngsters that at the very least, you’ll be treated fairly.
Graham Potter will know exactly what his plans are for Luis Guilherme. Potter is the best judge as he sees him in training every day. Trust that everything is in hand.
He was always labelled as “one for the future” so let’s give him some game time and see what he can do, either here or on loan. The current situation is doing neither him nor the club any favours.
Tim obviously did some smart talking to secure his transfer to whu.
Nobody really knows what he was promised it certainly wasn’t to fester on bench.
Mid attack needs bolstering, unlikely this transfer period apart from return of Ward-Prowse.
It’s been recognised this is likely to be his best playing position and possible answer to needs.
Climbing table is most important which is perhaps reason for not giving him a chance to show his possibilities.
He may be a raw diamond but everybody needs to start somewhere.
As suggested a loan with minimal amount of agreed starts at least he gets to play.
Selling at a considerable loss makes no sense although a common practice at whu.
Couldn’t agree more..give the poor lad a go
100% agree
