From yesterday’s post regarding James Ward Prowse and his loan spell at Nottingham Forest, it is clear our West Ham United loanees are enjoying varied responses on the pitch for their new – if temporary – clubs. I’m sure the hope is that all of them will be such a success that their new homes will become permanent after their loan spells finish.
I’ve already alluded to Nayef Agured’s Success on loan and covered JWP’s mixed reception: A perennial bench – sitter who looks like he is having a better time of it than Ward-Prowse is Maxi Cornet.
In an article entitled: “Southampton forward aiming to return to his best form in the Premier League“, Southampton fan site saintsmarching.com made the bold statement that:” Cornet made his Southampton debut in a 3-0 defeat against Manchester United and looked decent with his blistering pace and build up play”
Encouraging words indeed. We didn’t see much of his blistering pace, largely through the selection policy of you-know-who. I was intrigued, was all going well for Maxi?
So, as with Ward-Prowse, I thought I’d dig a bit deeper and look at fan comments in one of the many Saints Chatrooms:
One poster (‘PatfromPool’) commented: “He strikes me as the sort of player who may score 2 or 3 belters in a season.
But more likely to blast shots out of the ground and into the fanzones at the Northam and Chapel Ends. Rough with the smooth. Bit of pace about him though.”
Generally, another mixed bag, fair to say, with poster (Butty101) speaking for many:” I didn’t see anything last night to get excited about”.. and describing Maxwel as the ‘left winger goal machine [who] has netted once in 2 years for West Ham “… Quite.
Lots of ‘need to see more’ comments so I’ll keep an eye on all three deadline day loanees (maybe because I’m kind of hoping they won’t be back!)
So, on the positive side, Cornet is getting game time and has not yet disappeared off-sick. Hopefully he will continue to impress both fans and management at Southampton alike. We’d love him to find success and relaunch his career.
