Declan is the after-match media victim

The Premier League insist that after every game a player needs to be presented to the media – this time the unfortunate individual seized on by our media department at the club was Declan Rice.

All we can hope is that they don’t do their usual trick of presenting a few more in the international break explaining that “we have to talk on the training ground, show character, get back to basics” and all the rest of the bull that gets spouted to absolutely no effect.

Today was terrible – appalling – and the pressure put on players by the PL to talk in such circumstances does nothing to help the game’s image, the club or the player himself.

It’s not a job that would be loved by those who have to organise it either because they would far sooner be producing a bunch of quotes from a player  talking the club up.

So hopefully they will not conduct anymore of these things which do nothing but make everybody feel considerably worse than they were after the defeat.

At least Declan was brutally honest explaining in part for the first time explaining what some of us have seen for several weeks – they can’t even pass the ball five yards successfully on a regular basis.

For the record here’s what Declan had to say @https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/november/09-november/declan-rice-well-be-working-hard-do-basics-right“When we had that high at the start of the season there was a real buzz around the place, but we haven’t kicked on over the last five games and we’ve been poor. There’s no two ways about it.

“It’s hard to put it down to one thing. During the week we train really hard and week after week we keep our heads up and are positive, then it gets to the game, we go 1-0 down and our heads drop.

“We need to learn, we need to get back to the basics of football. We’re not doing the basics properly, the simple five-yard passes, the tackling.

“We’ve got the international break now, the manager will get everyone together and we’ll work really hard.

“Eleven players win you games, you don’t win games with one or two players. Everyone has to be at it from the start of the game. If you’re not, looking at today, we were bullied all over the pitch being honest.”

Ok media department you’ve done your job – spare us anymore…thanks!

  1. And West Ham hope to keep Rice at the club? He will be going imho. What a pathetic performance again.

    • My heart bleeds. These guyoate getting paid upwards of £40,000 a week and they have to give a press conference. How absolutely wrong is that. What an injustice. Think of how many nurses have had to do a night shift, facing the worse of society has to offer. That’s an injustice. Not a prima Donna having to face a couple of hacks. For Hods sake, Get real
