Declan plays a role

Declan Rice came off the bench as England beat Switzerland 2-1 in an international friendly at Wembley.

The Hammers star was on the bench initially, with Gareth Southgate experimenting with a very different midfield, including Crystal Palace’s Conor Gallagher.

Southgate made a raft of changes in the second half, with four players coming on just after the hour mark, including Declan.

Rice came on to replace Gallagher and he played the remainder of the game as England came from behind to record a morale-boosting win ahead of the friendly with Ivory Coast on Tuesday.

Switzerland took the lead through Breel Embolo, as he got in behind Ben White and headed past Jordan Pickford.

But Luke Shaw equalised on the stroke of half-time with a crisp strike from the edge of the box and Harry Kane scored the winner in the 78th minute, scoring a penalty after a Swiss player was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.
