Defender explains why he joined the Hammers

Thilo Kehrer has unquestionably been one of the best new signings we have seen at the club this season despite the poor results.

David Moyes moved for the former Paris St Germain central defender when star signing Nayef Aguerd was injured in pre-season.

And despite conceding a penalty early on, the German international has been in very decent form as the Hammers have struggled through their opening games.

The player was not in the plans of his former boss Christophe Galtier and arrived at the London Stadium for around £10 million after being allowed to seek a new club.

Kehrer has played in every game he’s been available for since arriving at West Ham, with David Moyes trusting him from the off.

However, Moyes received a scare this morning when two German internationals withdrew from the squad with Covid which hopefully Kehrer has avoided
Meanwhile, Kehrer has revealed his reasons for joining the Hammers in Kicker saying: “After the time at PSG with many titles, it felt like I wanted to play a new role in a team, I want more responsibility. That’s what West Ham asked of me, that’s what I expect of myself. I’m sure that this step will help me in my personal development.”
