West Ham United’s defensive overhaul is a clear indication of the club’s ambition to address the defensive frailties that plagued them last season.

It is no secret that the Hammers struggled to keep the ball out of their net throughout last season.

Under David Moyes, the Irons conceded 74 goals but were only able to score 60, leaving them with the sixth-worst goal difference in the Premier League.

The arrivals of Max Kilman and the likely signing of Jean-Clair Todibo significantly strengthen the backline, providing manager Julen Lopetegui with greater options and flexibility. Guido Rodriguez has come in to add some steel to the midfield and form a shield ahead of a previously frail backline which now looks significantly better without the loved-but-lame Kurt Zouma who is expected to finalise a deal to leave.

By investing in defensive reinforcements, West Ham are demonstrating a clear commitment to improving their defensive record. A more solid backline will be crucial in the club’s pursuit of European qualification and success in domestic competitions.
