Defoe congratulates Gonzo’s boy after goal teasing

Jermaine Defoe has again shown his soft side by congratulating the son of Hammers Chat’s Gonzo for a goal he scored for his junior team.

Gonzo’s boy Jakey got some light hearted ribbing on Twitter when a video made by Dad saw him finish the goal in what some considered fortunate fashion with one fan saying it was a bit shinny.

Defoe was asked ‘Shank or tekkers’ by another supporter and quickly responded.

“From one finisher to another, he definitely meant it,” Defoe said.

Gonzo said: I just told him people are discussing his goal on the internet…Β Amazing what a difference a few words can make. He can’t wait to tell his football coach now.”

And he told CandH:Β “Jakey only started playing football last season and he’s not been enjoying the best of times at school recently. I do the photography for his club, upload the pictures onto the website and on this occasion was lucky enough to capture his goal on video.

It was his first league goal of the season and being the proud dad that I am I posted it up on social media expecting a few friends and family to say “well done”.
So you can imagine his reaction when I told him that a West Ham and England striker had viewed his goal and said he was a ‘quality finisher’. I believe 10,000 people have seen footage now and I’m quite sure that he’s been telling everyone about it during his lunch-time kick-about’s.
We’ve had a good laugh all week about it and fair play to Defoe, it only takes a few words to make such a difference to a little boy but he’d know that more than anyone”
