Jermaine Defoe has again shown his soft side by congratulating the son of Hammers Chat’s Gonzo for a goal he scored for his junior team.

Gonzo’s boy Jakey got some light hearted ribbing on Twitter when a video made by Dad saw him finish the goal in what some considered fortunate fashion with one fan saying it was a bit shinny.

Defoe was asked ‘Shank or tekkers’ by another supporter and quickly responded.

“From one finisher to another, he definitely meant it,” Defoe said.

Gonzo said: I just told him people are discussing his goal on the internet… Amazing what a difference a few words can make. He can’t wait to tell his football coach now.”

And he told CandH: “Jakey only started playing football last season and he’s not been enjoying the best of times at school recently. I do the photography for his club, upload the pictures onto the website and on this occasion was lucky enough to capture his goal on video.
