Departed striker gets big thumbs down

Fletch1Ashley Fletcher received  negative reaction following his debut for Middlesbrough against Wolves for the visit to Molineux on the opening day of the Championship programme yesterday (Sun).

The Hammers collected a cool £6.5 million for the former Manchester United youth product when Slaven Bilic decided to cash in.

But the forward has a lot of proving to do at his new club after he reportedly made a disappointing first appearance for Gary Monk’s outfit.

He was on the pitch for just 57 minutes but the reaction on Twitter was notably downbeat among the away team’s fans.

Among the comments he attracted were:

Imagine thinking Fletcher gets in ahead of Bamford. First major negative for Monk there, hope this isn’t a sign of things to come

O Your thoughts on Fletcher who was anonymous in the match – fair judgement ?

O  get fletcher off, not doing it

A couple of Irons fans also joined in describing him as “decidedly average” and “amazed we got £6.5 million for him.

  1. Poor kid, he doesn’t set the price tag, hopefully when he gets some match fitness his form will come he did ok in that division before so no reason to suspect he can’t score enough to keep their miserable bunch of supporters happy in the longer term.

  2. I said i think he will score plenty in The Championship even if i didnt rate him as a possible Prem striker for us.
Same type of fans at every club.We had ones who wrote off Antonio after 1 or 2 matches 😁

  3. Its going to be a test of character for him , will he come good ? Who knows , one minute he’s in Austria the next out on his arry ? His confidence will be low , I didn’t fancy him at all but wish him luck, he will be OK in that division and with game time and experience the boy will hopefully do well 😉

  4. Good to know that we are not the only club with fans that can judge a new signing in less than 30 mins. #keyboardtalentscouts
