Deschamps gushes over Dimiti Payet performance

PayetDimitri Payet received a resounding vote of confidence from the France coach, Didier Deschamps, after Dimi’s impressive return to international football yesterday in the 3-2 win over Holland.

“He confirmed with us what he has been doing with his club,” said Deschamps of Payet’s form. “Every time he touched the ball, he made something happen. He has enormous qualities and made a massive effort. He is on top form,” the coach said.

Dimi2Payet revelled in an attacking midfield role, forcing the first save of the match from the Holland goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen after only four minutes. On the hour mark his strong run from the middle and subsequent shot struck the base of the post.

Payet, who has 16 caps has probably done enough for a place in the French squad for the European Championships this summer. The French team continue their preparations on Tuesday against Russia in Paris and the squad for the Euros will be named on 12 May.

Dimitri Payet had the most touches (89), most shots (4) & played the most passes before a shot (6) during the International match on Good Friday.
