French Coach Didier Deschamps hailed Dimitri Payet after another late goal last night as France beat Albania 2-0 in Marseille to secure their place in the last 16.
Payet scored the late winner against Romania in the opening match of Euro 2016 and following last night’s goal, France coach Deschamps said: “Payet has become more consistent. He’s always had ability and a lot of confidence. Now, in one-on-one situations and challenges, he’s always up for the fight.”
Second time man-of-the-match Payet said: “It felt special to me to come back here. Scoring a goal at the stadium where I used to play my club football was very emotional.”
“I’m happy because once again we pushed harder in the second half and our efforts paid off, although it didn’t go our way until late on. Albania defended very well.”
Deschamps added: “It is not really surprising to me as even during the preparation games it was similar. It shows that our guys give everything until the end.”
