DG: “I want our fans out of their seats today”

Gold arms up in airDavid Gold wants to see the Irons produce a determined and forward looking game against Spurs today which will “get the fans out of their seats.”

With no Andy Carroll or Enner Valencia available he understands there may not be the attacking flair on display he would love but he wants to see “guts, spirit and intent.”

The Hammers co-chairman – speaking exclusively to Claretand Hugh before leaving for the game against Spurs – said: “I’m excited – just like any other fan. The start of a new season is very special.

“But we have to be realistic and realise we are a bit short up top and that it will be an all hands to the pump sort of game.

“Further into the season we will be looking for more than that. We want to see West Ham carrying games to teams, attacking them and playing a passing game.

“Valencia is a hugely exciting player with incredible pace who will cause enormous problems to any team but for now we go with what we have got and we want to see power and commitment.

“We want the fans out of their seats – we have gone the extra mile in the transfer market and we want to see things happening differently.

“I’d like to two up front – even small guys. I know they were different times but Frank McAvennie and Tony Cottee weren’t any bigger than me!

“Today is important – we need a great start and I absolutely can’t wait.”
