Diangana proves a big hit again

Grady Diangana’s debut for England U20s ended in a deserved victory for the young Lions, who were 2-0 winners over Germany .

The official site reports that the winger’s pace was a constant problem for defender Gian-Luca Itter, who received some relief when the young Hammer was withdrawn on 72 minutes.

West Ham goalkeeper Nathan Trott featured in the squad for Monday’s fixture but was an unused substituted

Having been included by head coach Paul Simpson to make his first appearance for the England side 20 year old Diangana always looked a threat on the flank.

In fact he came close to opening scoring for the Three Lions when he skipped past three Germany defenders, but saw his shot hit the side netting.

The second period saw England take the lead through Willock with Lukas Nmecha tapped in from close range for the second.

ClaretandHugh says: Grady Diangana’s progress to international level is nothing less than extraordinary given that ahead of his West Ham first team debut he had gone entirely unnoticed by national team bosses. Now,however, he has taken the first step which we hope will see him eventually launched onto a full Three Lions career. He received a big round of applause when he was subbed in the 72nd minute against a team of course with a highly notable international record. All that remains is for him to grab that first goal for West Ham and hopefully that will see the floodgates open. He has already been denied a couple of clear penalties at club level and that he has come almost out of left field to the point he is at is extraordinary. Once again it needs to be said that the work foing on in our academy after such a barren period over recent years is quite extraordinary and a huge well done to all involved.

  1. Hold on Hugh, I saw him score 2 against Macclesfield; won’t be long before a Premiership one comes along, though!!
