Alou Diarra’s disastrous spell at West Ham ended with the player pocketing aound £1.3 million as a contract pay-off.
The 32 year old spent several weeks negotiating a deal and it is understood left only after receiving an improved offer on the suggested initial pay off figure.
ClaretandHugh was made privvy to the arrangement by club insiders soon after the official site announced the former French international’s departure.
“We were told exclusively: “Agreements terminated by mutual consent can cost a lot of money – in this case between £1.2- £1.3 million.
“It demonstrates just how costly things can become in this game when moves don’t work out.
“It’s a lot of money for a player who made just 14 appearances in all competitions for the club.”
