Julian Dick’s Heybridge Swifts have been denied promotion to the next league despite winning their Bostik North playoff final on penalties on Sunday. Due to an re-organisation of the lower leagues the Swifts will stay put in the Bostik North league in a cruel twist.
Heybridge Swifts beat hosts Maldon & Tiptree in the Bostik League North play-off final, 2-0 in a penalty shoot-out, after a 2-2 draw at Park Drive not knowing whether they would earn promotion to the Premier Division.
Heybridge Swifts were at the bottom of the league and in danger of relegation when former Hammer Dicks took over in October last year following the resignation of Jody Brown.
The season saw the Swift win 23 of their 38 league games, draw five, lose ten finishing on 74 points with a goal difference of +19.
Dicks who managed West Ham Ladies and well as being one of Slaven Bilic’s backroom team has impressed Swift fans since he took charge late last year.
Another money making exercise I would think. How disappointed they all must be.
What was the point of the play-offs if winning them was meaningless ?
