Did Downing cost us?

The appalling clearance by Stewart Downing last night allowed Arsenal to get back into the game just before half-time at the Emirates and some would argue changed the game. It was a good example that a team can never afford to make a  mistake or show any weakness in the Premier league. Each premier league position is worth around £900,000 while Premier League survival is worth a minimum of £60 million in TV broadcast income.  Stewart Downing cost West ham £6 million in transfer fees and is thought to earn £200,000 per month in wages. The pressure is on these highly paid players to eliminate even the smallest of mistakes from their game.
