It seems as though every injury suffered at West Ham this season is the dreaded hamstring tear. First Niclas Fullkrug had his fledgling calf strain – recovery and return to action cut short after tearing his hamstring against Aston Villa (main pic), then Crysencio Summerville was ruled out for a couple of months after a recurrence of a tear after the same game.
Now news comes from thewesthamway of an academy player whose fledgling loan agreement has been cancelled owing to his own hamstring tear.
Northern Ireland ‘s 20 year old centre back Michael Forbes is potentially out for the rest of the season having only joined Colchester United last month for the rest of the season- ironically to gain valuable game time. Forbes will return to West Hams training facilities for treatment and rehabilitation ahead of next season.

Michael Forbes – likely out for the season now
Sad for the young man and a worrying trend of hamstring injuries plaguing players this season. The only good news is that the injury usually responds to treatment and is unlikely to have the devastating effect of a dreaded ACL injury that can end a player’s career.
Click bait par excellence.
In the premier league i believe hamstring injuries might have something to do with, at least not helped by players standing around in the freezing cold awaiting VAR decisions and the general stop start nature of football these days. Long pauses in play followed by frenetic pace over a long period can not be good for any athlete surely.
That’s a very interesting theory, K. I wonder if we can get some figures on whether muscle injuries have noticeably increased since VAR was introduced…
Martin, some homework for you… 😉
