Nayef Aguerd’s future at West Ham United remains uncertain as the transfer window draws to a close. The Moroccan defender has rejected a move to Wolfsburg but is attracting interest from multiple clubs, including Saudi Pro League sides.
However, it doesn’t look like the Irons are going to be short of alternative options with “many clubs” now looking to bring the defender in.
Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth named Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad as one of those in the race for his signature.
Aguerd’s departure from West Ham seems inevitable, given his limited playing time and the club’s desire to reduce their wage bill. The Hammers are actively seeking to offload players to free up funds for other transfer targets, such as Carlos Soler.
The Saudi Pro League transfer window is open for a few days longer than the Premier League’s so a deal could still be done to send him there, as the surplus to requirements Kurt Zouma also closes in on a move to Al Orobah
Whether Aguerd finds this particular Saudi offer to his likening is anyone’s guess. Last nights claims of being ‘Frozen out’ at West Ham and being forced to move indicate this could be a non-runner.
The transfer market is unpredictable, and there is no guarantee that Aguerd will find a new club before the window closes. However, his talent and experience does make him an attractive option although it’s uncertain why any interested clubs have left it so late.
The witch-hunt towards Aguerd from this site is embarrassing and ultimately shameful. For a number of months, all the writers on here have done is slag off Aguerd. Not one of your articles has any substance around it and is all based on hearsay or other rubbish that has never been verified. Players change agents all the time and this does not mean he wants to leave. At no time has he come out and stated such and every time he is shown in training he seems happy. I am sure if he reads the rubbish spouted on here about him, he will probably want to cut ties. Aguerd is a quality defender. Ultimately, to succeed and challenge for the Top 6, we need cover in every position and at present we have four centre backs. Why would we want to lose one? My advice would be to cut the negativity about him and maybe comment on truths and not fallacy.
To be fair this story about Aguerd turning down Wolfsburg but offers from al attihsd etc was reported “exclusively” etc, as they like to say by mr ex why employee the West Ham itk blokey. Not saying it’s the case here but many others just repeat anything ex whu says. It maybe true. just have to wait and see.
He has been disappointing but I don’t think he’s a player that suits a low block. His strengths are that he’s a ball playing central defender with good recovery speed suits a higher defensive line. I believe that he could do a job given Lopeteguis tactics.
I have always liked Aguerd and the way he plays, and while West Ham did not defend well during the last campaign they certainly missed him when he wasn’t there. Zouma and Mavropanos haven’t come in for the same disrespectful commentary as Aguerd, but both had their share of performances they would rather forget. I thought it was very apparent that Aguerd lost confidence across the campaign. A good coaching and management team can reverse that. I worth noting how West Ham fans doubted Dawson for a long time before coming to appreciate his contributions and potential. I’d like to see the same apply for Aguerd.
I would prefer Aguerd to stay and fight for his place but something is clearly not right if he’s left out of match day squads. Either he’s unhappy and wants a move or he’s surplus to requirements and he’s one of the few player’s left that will command a decent fee. Thankfully the transfer window closes on Friday so no further protracted comings or goings after that so we can all concentrate on performance’s, team formations and hopefully a lot of good results! 🤞
They’re waiting because the more desperate we are to get rid of him the more likely they’ll get him for peanuts. Not hard to work that out, is it?
I watched a lot of video’s of Aguerd in his Rennes playing days. He often played wide left and he looked exceptional there. He is a good tackler and passer of the ball and is very quick. His downfall was playing in central defence with the struggling Zouma and i don’t think that’s his favoured position anyway. Mavopanos also looks a much better player now that he is paired with the excellent Kilman.
It would not be the end of the world if Aguerd stayed as we need 4 cb’s to cover for the inevitable injuries and suspensions.
Guard can cover left cb and leftback which save money an if he has a good season we could get a bit more than 20mil. Any cb paired with Kurt is Going to look bad guys if we are honest. I think we should concentrate on a 2nd striker then get loans in to cover
