West Ham are reported to be in the market for one but do we need a Tomas Soucek replacement particularly given his the Czech Republic international’s improving West Ham form this season? One guy who thinks so is Mr Buddy Lurve, a Claret and Hugh follower and in this piece explains why he believes that to be the case.
Whilst I’m an advocate pf replacing Tomas Soucek in midfield, I think to cite the Brentford game as an example of our midfield deficiencies is a little harsh. We played with two in the middle, against their three, which is a radical change to the David Moyes norm.
Soucek seems like a great guy and I want him to do well, but this deficiency is not just ‘recent games’ – it’s the last 2 years. Look back, watch him closely and see how often play passes him by, or how slow he is to mobilise, or how his touch and passing can be.
He scores important goals with his head though, and everyone forgets the bread and butter that often results in us playing like we have 10 men.
Just watch him.
Keep him for another season or two. Sure, Tomas isn’t perfect, but he’s still a threat at set pieces…..and a million times better than Flynn Downes who hasn’t a clue at this level.
I’ve always been a Soucek fan since he arrived with Coufal. Great deals and both playing for the badge. There’s no argument that his form dipped probably due to the increasing performance of one Declan Rice. This season the reins have been off and he’s able to get back to scoring goals again. So I’d say not a replacement but a back -up is needed.
His club and country performance has been lethargic after a good start to the season. No excuses this season coz Deccers not here.I feel it’s time to move him on after a suitable replacement is found and there are clubs who want him.BTW Kelvin Phillips is not that man.
