Diafra Sakho has had a long standing back problem sorted out whist undergoing surgery on his thigh injury.

The club’s major striker is close to a return to action after an operation following the injury he sustained against West Brom at the end of November.

He is well ahead of the expected three month recovery deadline and could be back within a fortnight but there’s even better news on a player who has had more than his share of injury issues.

Last season his back problem  saw him miss 12 League games and so far this year he has appeared on 14 occasions but now doctors re confident they have got to the  bottom of his ongoing problems.

According to a very well placed source, the two issues – back and thigh – were found to be inter-linked and the medical procedures involved in his operation six weeks ago should have solved BOTH issues.

ClaretandHugh was told esclusively: The medics have taken a good look at things and are very hopeful that the issues have been solved. He should come back as a ‘new’ man.”

  1. Three important home games to win ! Spurs , arsenal , man utd , one away game v Leicester? Win them and we are in Europe next year ! Sakho , carol , Valencia and emmy can fire us there , after watching last night we need to be creative from everybody in midfield and not rely on payet as our main outlet, he is being given close attention now so we should be using the attention to our advantage , lanzini,s return will be a massive boost but as he did last night noble got more involved going forward and relieved the pressure on payet .
Payet position is the 10 role with cart Blanche to move anywhere and create with lanzini and Antonio on the flanks. IMO its going to start to get competitive in the song , noble ,obiang , kouyate dept , rotation anybody , I also had a bad feeling about ginge last night he showed signs of that loose screw ??

  2. With you there JBoy
Payet is best when he is central in a 3 man line up behind a striker.
We’ll have to wait until Lanzini is back for that to happen as we don’t have anyone who can play there. Moses, doesn’t contribute enough and Kouyate can’t.
Maybe Valencia could if Carroll is fit for Southampton. (This is why I think we will make a move for Mane in the summer). As an alternative we could use EE up front and bring Carroll on for the last 30 minutes.

  3. Also agreed about Collins. He’s done well but if we are to qualify for Europe we need quicker player’s at the back who are less prone to the fouls and poor distribution that Collins makes.

  4. Not happy about the comments re Collins . When the squad was depleted he put it on the line with magnificent defending . Without him we would have been dead and buried . Sure he is not good enough for Europe but what a magnificent warrior and , by the way , if Noble is worth a £5m contract , Collins is worth double .

    • I don’t think anybody’s knocking his heart or commitment ! Its his mentality that sometimes goes AWOL and he becomes a liability ! He could easily have gone last night, he also gave a ball away high up the pitch which nearly led to a chance for the villains , he gets angry and loses his composure , ogbonna will start v saints IMO.

  5. The problem finding defenders is there are not that many good ones out there,if you look at the defences of Man U,Liverppor,Arsenal,Man City, and Chelski how many players won’t of you buy ZERO we missed problems with Richards and Lescott,by not getting them,
The Spuds have the best defensive players in the premier by miles and we have no chance of getting them,
But we have Burke,Henry,Oxford coming through, plus page and Hendrie,
The Africans are not the best defenders either,
Not easy we need the scouts looking hard as we have the forwards now and apart from Song who I would not sign full time but Poyet and Cullen could cover,
We are in a good place and age is not a problem,

  6. The Africans are not the best defenders either???
