West Ham have completed the signing of former Tottenham and Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters.
The 28-year-old has penned a three-year deal at the London Stadium after leaving the Saints on a free transfer. With 149 top-flight appearances and two England caps under his belt, Walker-Peters is set to cover a number of positions for Graham Potter.
Able to operate comfortably on either flank, the new No2 offers a little bit of squad depth and should insulate the Hammers when Malick Diouf and Wan Bissaka leave for AFCON duty in December.
Speaking after his arrival, Kyle said: “It feels like this move was meant to happen. I’ve spoken with Graham and he’s building something exciting – I want to be a big part of that.”
Graham Potter added: “He’s a top professional, a great personality and a proper Premier League player. He’ll add real depth and raise the standard in training.”
Walker Peters rejected the chance to join Turkish club Besiktas having looked odd-on to complete a medical last Wednesday. But a late offer from West Ham changed the players mind and he’s now set to spend the next 3 years at The London Stadium.
Following yesterdays impressive debut by Diouf added to the quality of Wan Bissaka and the improving Ollie Scarles, the Hammers now look well stocked at wing-back. Now onto the midfield!
I think this is a good buy as he’s a decent player, you always need cover.
We do need Mids, Gk & a Striker with hopefully our youth getting a chance as well
I wonder where he will fit in Potter’s first XI – In cant believe that we bought him just for the AFCON period in January – hopefully Potter has something up his sleeve
