Double blow for Reid’s top four move

ReidWinston Reid’s hopes of landing a move to  Arsenal may have taken a nosedive this morning with reports that the Gunners are tracking a new £15 million target – Benedikt Howedes

And with sources at Manchester United claiming the club won’t be making any serious player moves in January, the Irons central defender may be running out of options in his hopes of landing a top four club.

Reporter Neil Moxey – one of Fleet Street’s more reliable operators – says in his Sunday People report:”Arsene Wenger has moved to correct Arsenal’s defensive problems by stepping up an interest in Howedes and that “the German was watched whilst helping Schalke to a fine 4-0 win over Stuttgart last week.”

He is a friend of current Gunners centre-back Per Mertesacker and at fee approaching £15million, would be well within Arsenal’s budget.

Reid’s hopes of Old Trafford interest were also dashed when a source revealed  to us: “It’s very unlikely the club will be moving on any serious targets in January and Sam Allardyce has made it clear Reid won’t be allowed to leave on the cheap anyway because he needs him until the end of the season.

  1. This is my first post, so be kind guys please 🙂

The will he, won’t he saga surrounding Winston is beginning to get a little tired. It may well be that no positive or negative response is getting to some fans, especially as the offer on the table is more per week than most of us earn in a year. I will point out though that as of yet there have been no mutterings that he is unhappy here, so in my opinion he is keeping his options open at this time.

If he signs a new contract then I will be very happy as he is a key part of the squad and probably one of the first names on Sam’s sheet when available. If he doesn’t though, well we have survived worse and another name will appear in his place who could be as good or even add more to the team. After all I remember watching him in his first season and wondering why on earth we had signed him!!

One last thing to ponder on; everyone keeps on saying that Winston is waiting for a top 4 team to come in and buy him. Last time I looked we are a top 4 team and 3 points next Saturday against Leicester and we will go into Christmas a top 4 team. Maybe young Winston will be mulling that over whilst he tucks into his turkey on the 25th?

    COYI!!!

  2. I honestly think he has found his level here at west ham, If he did manage to fluke a transfer to a BIG club he would find himself warming the bench and then after 6 games in 2 years he would be forced out … Does he really believe he can play for Arsenal or Man U ?? I think its more about seeing if he can earn a few grand more.

  3. I have said all along I bet he stays. His agent has asked for a meeting with the owners this week. Perhaps he will sign soon.
