The last 48 hours seems to sum up perfectly the highs and lows, the forlorn hope followed by disaster followed by hope again that encapsulates the experience of being a West Ham United fan.

It is exhausting but few would swap places with the dull existence of the glory hunters who buy the shirts of  Manchester City or Chelsea simply because of their dominance ( or not – in Chelsea’s case these days).

The despair was palpable and seemingly terminal after Sunday’s fiasco. What felt worse still was knowing that it was the masters of the dark arts Arsenal who were rescued by VAR, after winning so many points thanks to the review system’s passivity this season.

Emotional rollercoaster may be entertaining but it is exhausting

Twenty four hours later and Tottenham fell victim to the longest review of the season – surely – a six minute rehashing of the incident which eventually allowed Leeds to snatch two points away from Spurs survival fund. Brilliant.

And for anyone wondering if the football gods had deserted West Ham yesterday, good old Hull City banged two goals past Millwall to eliminate the Hammers’ least favourite neighbours from the Championship playoffs at the semi final stage. Police forces all over the country will be breathing a sigh of relief knowing the Dockers won’t be heading to Premier League grounds next season.

Double delight as Tigers eliminate Millwall from the play offs

It seems the football gods have done their bit, so now the Hammers have to step upto the plate and do their own part by beating Newcastle United and then Leeds on the last day. They say it’s the hope that kills: Thanks to events of the last 24 hours it’ll be an even more agonising last two weeks of the season. Don’t look away just yet.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Think that’s right it’s hard to see Chelsea putting up a fight two days after losing the FA Cup to Man City, the fixture list is a disgrace as are some of the decisions.

Let’s hope the FA decide they don’t want to see West Ham v Millwall next season and referee so that Tottenham lose both games.

  • Iain Rolles says:

Never heard of Millwall being called the Dockers they have always been called the Lions

  • Morty says:

Earlier in the season I said we won’t have David Moyes to save us from relegation this time, but Spurs v Everton last game…maybe he will.

The Dockers derby could still be on, if we don’t beat Newcastle and Leeds

  • John Ayris says:

I think we’ve blown out, we’re two points and goal difference behind Toittenham means we’d need to make up three points in two games to survive.

It’s unlikely. They don’t need to achieve a lot, we do need to achieve a lot, and both things need to happen.

It was blown at the start of the season before our form turned, we simply got too far behind. The boards faault.

Have faith Martin Nuno said it would go to the last game of the season and hes right Let’s hope its us that comes through

  • Ray Stewart’s Right Peg says:

Nothing short of 6 points now. My biggest fear is being relegated by goal difference on the final day – a very real possibility. It’d be so West Ham!

I’m not a fellow doom monger. Facts are this, Spurs failed to win what was their easiest game on paper having faced their first ‘proper’ match in the last three.
Chelsea will bust a gut to send their despised fellow Londoners down (Reece James’s latest online comment ‘we’re gonna relegate them’) [sic].
If they lose to Chelsea and we win two absolutely winnable games, job done.
      It’s that straightforward😉
