As De Zerbi celebrated back to back wins for his Tottenham side this evening, the Premier League table flashed up onto the screen showing West Ham back in the bottom three, in that familiar eighteenth place which they had made their own for large chunks of this year.
The grim reality of the Hammers situation is lost on nobody who supports the club: One point behind Spurs and three behind Nottingham Forest with three games to play.

The unpredictability of this relegation fight means any of the trio of West Ham, Tottenham or Nottingham Forest could string two wins together and save themselves. The Irons of course face the visit of prospective Champions Arsenal and fans will be bracing themselves for the kind of goal deluge that has become de rigeur in recent seasons. Four, five or six goals? Gulp.
It seems the momentum that West Ham held just a couple of weeks ago has now swung towards Tottenham. Nobody can blame Aston Villa for sending out a second eleven with a Europa League semi final against ‘Forest on Thursday. Would that they’d been that bad when facing West Ham just a few weeks ago.
There’s just a sneaking suspicion, though, that Nottingham Forest could be vulnerable to a late Hammers rally with the extra exertions of the ‘Villa semi final next week. If the Tricky Trees lose to Chelsea tomorrow then there will still only be three points between the trio and the battle would be too close to call.

Forest 2-0 up in 15 mins at Chelsea so no they won’t be dragged into the fray. Unless Sullivan goes we might be battling to avoid the drop to League 1 next season like many other teams relegated from the Premier League have. We have no right to automatically bounce back and frankly the club is no longer set up for success at any level.

Assuming Spuds beat Leeds and we lose to Arse then we are gone even if we manage to get a point at Newcastle. Sadly we need to be preparing for Stevenage and Lincoln next season. As some kept saying, all we needed to dop was match Spurs results, now that is their position. It is starting to look like the difference is that West Ham just simply do not have Premier League players. It is not over yet, but with nobody scoring goals we can’t win and we now need 3.
I disagree. Nuno’s cowardice in not going all out against Palace was the real turning point. His tactics and in-game management has been shocking. De Zerbi is a risk taker. In this situation, that is what is required. Nuno has been approaching the last two away games as if we were mid-table or there were 10 games left.
Unfortunately because our goal difference is so bad we have add a plus 1 to our catch up point total, so we are in effect 2 behind spurs and 4 behind forest
In short we blew out at Brentford and Tottenhams form has changed. I think we’re second favourites now and I blame the board.
