Downing rates our Liverpool chances

DowningStewart Downing was delighted with the point at Hull and believes if we can produce more of the same have a great chance against Liverpool this weekend.

The winger turned  in a great performance in the 2-2 draw and said that if “we can cut the errors out we have a really good chance against Liverpool.”

He said: “We conceded two sloppy goals and that’s been a little bit of a downfall for us recently, so we need to sharpen up on that, but overall the football we played was really good. At times we passed them off the park.

“It was an unbelievable strike from Enner Valencia for our first goal. We’ve seen him do that in training and we keep telling him to keep shooting. That’s a big goal for him, to get his first out of the way.

“If he keeps striking them like that he’ll get a few more for us. He’s got a leap on him too, and it doesn’t matter how big you are if you have that and you’re a good header of the ball.

“I thought him and Diafra Sakho played really well for us. They’ve got good movement and they give us something different, so that’s a bonus for us.

I played a bit more in the centre and I really enjoyed getting on the ball more. It felt like I was in the game a lot. As long as I’m playing and doing well, I’m not really fussed what position it is, but I certainly enjoyed it.

If we can cut the errors out, I think we’ve got a really good chance against Liverpool. You saw what Aston Villa did on Saturday – they shut them out and Liverpool didn’t really have many chances. That’s what you’ve got to do because if you’re sloppy against top teams they’ll punish you.

If we show the same passing and movement that we did on Monday, but cut the errors out, we can play against anyone. We need to get a result at home too.”
