Downing ready, willing and able

Downing overheadStewart Downing has waited for another England chance too long to become a spare part in the squad for Slovenia and Scotland games.

And at 30, he’s ready to make a big time  impact if manager Roy Hodgson picks him for either or both games.

Downing said: “I want to be involved. I don’t want to be just one of the numbers. I am lookin forward to it.”

Hopefully I can get a start. The manager was obviously looking at other players and he had other options so to be honest I didn’t think I would be picked.

“These are very big gams. Slovenia is a qualifier and you could say Scotland is a friendly but I don’t think we will treat it as such.

“It will be a tough game and one we want to win. I think a few players will think they deserved a call up including a few of the lads at west Ham who have been playing well.

“The way I’ve been playing and performing, I thought I was in with a chance and credit the manager he has picked me.

“I’m enjoying playing in the middle so if he plays me there i can carry on my the form I’ve bene producing at west Ham, hopefully that will be good enough.

“I can play in a few positions so hopefully that will help my  cause.”
