Downing waits on Irons striker hunt

|

stewart-downing-west-ham-stoke_3223807West Ham have told Middlesbrough that Stewart Downing’s move back to the Riverside will happen once they have a new striker in place..

Downing is a certain departure but as was explained by a top insider on July 7: “He will be allowed to leave if we get better players.”

And this morning we were told: “We are extremely with the way things are shaping up. Stewart is now very likely to leave but given his offensive qualities we need another striker before we can let that happen.”

He confirmed that Javier Hernandez  was still very much a target but added: “We are open to any Premier League striker with a decent goals record.

“We can’t be arrogant enough to say ‘ We want one who plays like this or like that’ but are open to a player who fits our fee structure and knows where the net is.

“We have to do things in an orderly fashion which serve the best interests of West Ham United so yes Stewart will leave when we have our players in place. Middlesbrough are aware of the Irons position.”

Agreed. It looks like this French player from PSG is a back-up in case the Song deal falls through.
