Slaven Bilic has snubbed the idea of ‘warm weather’ midwinter break preferring the prospect of making Rush Green the club’s new training facilities.
It’s the first time in several years the squad will miss out on the annual ‘jolly’ of which the former boss was such a fan despite it doing absolutely nothing for result.
Slav had made it clear that he and players can do without that and made it clear why.
Sam Allardyce notoriously took his team to Dubai or Malaga but Bilic is more than happy to snub that “team bonding” plan for a 10 minute trip down the road.
He said: “I heard that in recent years the managers were taking the players to Malaga to train. I would like to avoid that, to fly to Spain for training, you don’t need that.
“I wanted to do something and I am sure I had to do something. The groundsman has told me the pitches at Rush Green are better so we will go there.”
