Duran’s Saudi bubble bursts | Hammers to the rescue

The lure of Saudia Arabia’s Pro League millions has snared many professional footballers. The chance to make wealth to secure the next few generations’ financial wellbeing must be enormous for players reaching the end of their playing career: One last mega-payday for the grand kids is something that none of us would sneer at.

However all that glitters is not gold. The lifestyle is different, the culture is strange and many cannot settle. Typical of the footballer who has found the Pro-League too much is former Hammers target Jhon Duran. After West Ham’s number one ‘fail’ of the summer window settled on a move to Al Nassr, its was assumed that the Colombian would disappear for ever in the media Siberia that is the Middle East.

Eight goals in twelve games shows Duran hasn’t lost it on the pitch but a report today from arraydiyah.com explodes the myth that all is well. Sadly for the Colombian, ( but perhaps, not surprisingly) he has failed to settle in the Middle East.

Excusing the google translation:

“Doubts are about the continuation of the Colombian international John Duran…..due to difficulties he faces on a personal level, which affected his mental state and technical stability, pointing out that there are clubs that have expressed their readiness to borrow [loan -MT] him, if Al-Nasr officially decides to abandon him.
The final picture of Doran’s future is expected to become clear in the coming days,”

Maybe the answer to David Sullivan’s prayers is a season-long loan for Jhon Duran to rescue both: The player from his Saudi torment and the Hammers from their failure to land a decent frontman.

Duran’s struggles are certainly a cautionary tale for any other player considering taking the Saudi dollar. We hope he can find a solution and can assure him he’d have no such issues settling in Chigwell.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. Don't take my comments too seriously, imagine we are having a chat at half time over a pint at L S and "let's disagree without falling out".

We could never have signed him as Villa wanted and needed a ridiculous amount for him and his pay demands would have exploded our wage structure. Hence only the Arabs would cough up plus his attitude definitely suspect as we might see now. It brings to mind who will pay £84million for Kudus?

    • David Anthony Malone says:

Id pay him a signing fee and do a tobido offer say for next year no hesitation still fit still young and if he scores value go through roof next seaon.Hammers offers him ego trip also and keep kudos.

  • Ray says:

Move along please, nothing to see here.

  • Phil Baker says:

Even if the financials were made to work for Duran , he would never come to Westham after the treatment he received .

  • Hammeroo says:

Ah, Chigwell – top place! My parents lived many many years in Chigwell Row, around the corner from The Retreat pub. Bobby Moore also lived in Chigwell and back in the day he used to hang out at The Retreat, though only when he was off duty of course. Sadly, some time after I emigrated to Australia, The Retreat closed down and the land was developed for more housing. Anyway, we’ve got Buckley’s chance of John Duran coming to play for West Ham, let alone seeing him in Chiggers. Dream on Martin!

  • Smudge says:

Sullivan has had a heart attack at the thought, it means he may have to bid for him again. Still he can always increase his previous offer by five quid.

Just another article about Duran , it won’t happen let’s move on

  • pat says:

Clickbait..we are doing nothing in the transfer market so lets release a non story to hopefully excite and placate the fans…….not going to work…jog on…Vardy and wilson nobody else will come.

  • John Ayris says:

We missed Duran for the sake of a few million, Steidten was told to get someone cheaper. Bizarrely we later ‘supposedly’ bid far more than would have secured him in the first place.

It’s insane carryings on like that that scuppered our season and leaves our prospects amongst the relegation favourites. Forget Duran we blew it and then some.

  • Timbo says:

Lol. That’ll be who we spend that ‘tiny bit’ of wages on then. More chance of signing Duran Duran.

  • TommyD says:

The financials on this would obviously never work… even on a loan!! A club like west ham only ever get one shot to sign players of Duran’s ability and potential and we spunked it in favour of a 32 year old journeyman German with an impressive injury record. The Duran boat has sailed… lets move on and find someone else young and hungry to succeed at our club…..

  • Mick bering says:

Just get it done Do something right and positive for a change we need a maverick to liven things up Just cast back and look what Dicanio achieved here

  • Devo's Tash says:

Unfortunately the £48 million we bid for him seems to have magically disappeared.

    • Towers says:

      It’s under sullys mattress…..he hasn’t spent it, so we’ve still got it….yes I do live in a dream world….

  • Jboy says:

    Nope….More misguided optimism

  • B says:

How often do you spend time in Chigwell Martin??

I suspect his wages might be an issue.
His contract is tax free £321 per week or £16.7mil. per season.
If he came to the UK, the equivalent would be £23-24mil. or £500k per week

  • Essexiron67 says:

Curtis Jones want more 1st team opportunities, couldn’t we sign him

  • Murdo Durrant says:

There’s more chance of Sullivan signing me with a serious spinal problem than of Duran coming to our clownfest of a club 🙄
