€40 million striker talks – West Ham keep everyone guessing

Image for €40 million striker talks – West Ham keep everyone guessing

Late in the day the Hammers appear to be getting a wiggle-on and finally putting striker options up for consideration for Graham Potter. Probably slow starting following the managerial upheaval in January, West Ham were late starters in this window as Kyle Macaulay finally got stuck into his ‘to do’ list. Reports now coming that West Ham have several options on the table probably to mask their ultimate choice and put leverage on the club from whom they want to buy.

Sky sports have reported that one option is Eli Junior Kroupi, as mentioned in Matt’s article in  Claret and Hugh this afternoon, the 18 year old sensation learning his trade at Lorient in Ligue 2. Whilst every media outlet has jumped on the report  as being news of an ‘imminent’ incoming it may well be a story designed to convince their main target to ‘deal’ instead of lose West Ham’s interest.

Forty million euros – thirty five million pounds- for an eighteen year old is not very West Ham. The club baulked at the €30 million mandatory purchase clause required in place by Ajax to secure Brian Brobbey so it is unlikely they’ve suddenly found another seven million pounds under the mattress.

In any case, the last time The Hammers forked out this kind of price for an eighteen year old it -so far – hasn’t ended well!

West Ham beat the worlds top clubs to the transfer of Luis Guilherme-pictured here next to Tim Steidten

The last time West Ham forked out huge , mega millions for an 18 year old – hasn’t ended well so will they be repeating this any time soon?

The fact that these dealings are still cloaked in Hammers secrecy is to their credit – nobody from within the club is giving much away so I suspect there is a much bigger picture here with the Ferguson, Brobbey, Cabral and (dare I say it) André Silva negotiations all going on away from the media spotlight.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Please please forget Ferguson, he is a crock

You choose your words carefully and deliberately Martin, to push the agenda you want to support on the day. In reality, West Ham have NEVER paid anywhere close to £35M for an 18 year old. Perhaps you can take this opportunity to tell us what the difference is between this 18 year old and the ones we already have on contract? Probably none, but this one is not old news. West Han do not need any more players just to stay in the PL and there is no chance of then winning anything this season other than a place in the PL.

If you’re good enough, you’re old enough. Wayne Rooney was a 16yr old superstar.

No good unless they’re going to play him.
Guilherme is previous player (pic) which your referencing as a flop.

Strange how things change where West Ham are concerned. MacCauley coming in with his “to do list” whereas all other times it has been mooted as a “scattergun approach”. As always it has to be the West Ham Way and leave it all to the last minute LOL.

This lad has Real Madrid, Barca, Leipzig Chelsea and Spurs as well as Lorient’s sister club Bournemouth interested. Has to be a better target than Ferguson, Silva and Brobbey.
