Early season start puts window pressure on Moyes

Rob Newman and David Moyes simply have to start getting deals done as quickly as possible.

The new Premier League season starts on the weekend of August 6th.

That is in 75 days.

There is absolutely no time to wait, here.

We have told you that the club are trying to get a deal over the line for Rennes’ Nayef Aguerd and there is hope that transfer will be completed.

There are deals being done elsewhere. Aston Villa have signed Boubacar Kamara and Philippe Coutinho already; Liverpool have done a deal for Fabio Carvalho; Manchester City have agreed to sign Erling Haaland.

Newman is facing his first full summer in his role as the Head of Recruitment at the club, and he can ill-afford to get this summer wrong.

Indeed, there is next to no hope of making up for any mistakes in the January window, as that will open just 10 days after the 2022 World Cup has finished. Players who go deep into the tournament may impress scouts but they will also be physically, and potentially mentally, shot.

There is no room for the Hammers to get this summer wrong, particularly if the club want to keep challenging for European football next season.

The pressure is on for both Newman and Moyes.
